Colbation® Tonsillectomy

Northwest ENT Associates specialize in Coblation® Tonsillectomy. Coblation® is an advanced technology that combines high frequency energy with a natural salt solution to quickly remove soft tissue in a way that is minimally invasive.

Tonsils and adenoids are fleshy masses of lymphatic tissue that help fight off illness and infection by trapping bacteria and viruses as we breathe. Tonsils are located on both sides of the throat while adenoid tissue is located up in the back of the throat, behind the nose. In some patients, tonsils and adenoids may need to be removed surgically.

Coblation® is an advanced technology designed to quickly and gently remove tonsils and adenoids using high frequency energy and saline. Coblation technology does not rely on a heat-driven process to remove target tissue and is designed to preserve surrounding healthy tissue. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis. In such cases, patients typically return home shortly after the procedure.

You may remember your childhood tonsillectomy as a painful experience. Your child may not have to repeat that experience. Now, we use advanced cool-temperature technologies, like Coblation®, for tonsillectomy means that your child can experience less pain after the procedure, with a faster return to a regular diet and normal activity. A better overall experience!

Patients report a better overall experience with Coblation-assisted tonsillectomy after surgery compared to traditional procedures such as electrocautery and cold knife. Studies show that patient calls and visits to the doctor due to complications after surgery are significantly less with Coblation-assisted tonsillectomy.

Adult tonsillectomy

There are certain considerations that are unique to adult patients. Before you make a decision, discuss the procedure with your physician and follow their instructions about additional restrictions.
